The Beauty of the Green Earth on the wall, The Mothering Bundles on the floor.
These two artworks will be included in the exhibition Earlier and Later: New Quilts by April Martin and Judy Martin. Craft Ontario Gallery, 401 Richmond Street, Toronto, Ontario. June 17 - July 25 2026.
The quilt is based on a traditional pattern, Tree Everlasting. The small triangles that branch off of the four trunks, are linen that has been coloured with local natural plants.
The quilt is hand pieced, and hand quilted. The second side is an oval pink linen damask table cloth.
There are 38 mothering bundles. Each bundle holds a saved item from Judy Martin's life as a mother/artist. Examples are baby shoes for each of the four children, halloween costumes and knitted items that she made for those children, gifts of textiles from artist friends, and other memorabilia. Each item is wrapped in a piece of pastel wool blanket, and listed in a book and on an embroidered list.
